Hey there, SRU! I'm Allie Wilton, welcome to my blog. I'm a senior at Slippery Rock University, anticipating a degree in Communication: Digital Media Production with a Multimedia Emphasis. I come from a tiny town called Bradford, PA, and we're pretty much only known for being the home of the Zippo Lighter - a real claim to fame, I know. I'm a lover of music, art, and tequila (not necessarily in that order), and I have a real passion for graphic design. I love the way I can capture the entire mood of an event or scenario just by organizing some lines and colors the right way. I've been at SRU for three years now, and I'm somehow both excited and horrified to be done with my time here in a couple months. I don't know if I'm ready to take on the world or not, but I'm going to try either way.

So some may be wondering, why the hell is a Digital Media student in a Journalism class? Well, upon hearing my entire class' introductions and realizing I was the only one - I was sort of wondering the same thing. However, upon thinking about it a little bit, I realized that in the age of social media, everyone's a journalist in the most basic way. We all have the ability and the outlet to share any "news" we see fit. Now, for most people, that means their mimosas at brunch or their seats at Heinz Field, but that doesn't mean that it couldn't turn into something more. Those mimosas could turn into a first-hand look at a civilian saving someone from a choking accident, or the day at the Steelers game could turn into reporting on a season changing injury, all in a matter of seconds. My point is that anyone with access to the internet has the ability to use a variety of platforms to report on just about anything. I'm just here to learn how to use that capability to my advantage as an aspiring Communication Professional.

In terms of where I get my news, I'm a big fan of NBC as a traditional media source because I like the company as a whole (I'm going to write for Saturday Night Live one day), but I think that YouTube has the capability of being a very strong digital media source. I would give a spiel about how you have to be careful with YouTube for news, but as long as you're watching reputable channels, I don't believe that it is any more likely to provide you with "fake news" than any other outlet.

If you'd like to find me elsewhere, here's my Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram!
